The awareness raising actions on breast cancer prevention developed by Hospital da Luz Vila Real in the context of Pink October campaign counted with the participation of Vila Real Basket Club’s women team, and Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro Academic Association (AAUTAD). Last October 31, Hospital da Luz Vila Real sponsored the match between the U-16 teams of Basket Club and Vila Pouca, played at Nave dos Desportos, the UTAD sports hall. Hospital da Luz Vila Real offered the pink shirt worn by the Basket Club “Lobas”, who won the match by 81-22. It also distributed flyers with information on breast cancer prevention and a few items alluding to Pink October. Women in the audience also received flowers offered by the UTAD Academic Association, turning this evening even more beautiful and full of significance. The mascots of the three institutions – Lu (Hospital da Luz), Lobo (Basket Club), and Malvão (UTAD) – helped cheering in the stands. Also present were Carlos Silva, Vila Real city councillor, and Isilda Rodrigues, UTAD’s student counsellor. In the context of its mission to ensure the provision of healthcare to the population and local regional institutions, Hospital da Luz Vila Real celebrated a protocol establishing special conditions of access to health services for athletes and also members, collaborators and respective family of Vila Real Basket Club and UTAD Academic Association. At Hospital da Luz, we believe that the practice of sport is fundamental for a healthier life.
