“Together we will save lives” is an initiative launched by Hospital da Luz viewing to qualify the community in Basic Life Support manoeuvres (BLS) and raise awareness towards a culture of safety, contributing to reduce the number of deaths due to cardiorespiratory arrest. As part of this project, Hospital da Luz Vila Real provided, this month, a training session destined to elements of Vila Real PSP District Command. The action was developed by Sónia Cancela, Hospital da Luz nurse with BLS and AED (automated external defibrillator) use certification. Participants have learned how to assist people in sudden cardiorespiratory arrest until the arrival of specialized medical help. Training included the practice in manikins of all the necessary procedures, namely BLS manoeuvres with insufflation and compression, lateral safety position setting, and airway clearing. Efficient cardiopulmonary resuscitation, initiated short after cardiorespiratory arrest, can double, or even triple the chances of survival, yet only 30% of victims receive adequate support. Anyone could and should learn to apply cardiopulmonary resuscitation. This way, everyone will know how to save lives. Together we will save lives
