Hospital managers, and health and technology professionals participating in the annual European meeting of HIMSS (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society) visited Hospital da Luz Lisboa, between 7 and 9 June, to learn more about some of the technological solutions that are used here and which have changed healthcare providing, representing an added value for patients and professionals. The congress participants have said to be “impressed” with the innovation of services such as, for instance, MY LUZ, video consultations, robotic surgery and the Center of Clinical Simulation of Hospital da Luz Learning Health. The HIMSS is an international non-profit organization, already with over 50 years of activity, that has for goal to transform the global ecosystem of health via information systems and technology. Its meetings and conferences are global forums of ideas and projects sharing, aiming to influence the public and private decision makers operating in this field. In the Lisbon gathering, which took place at Centro de Congressos de Lisboa, the program was divided into five big thematic areas: digital transformation, innovating healthcare tools, preventive health and population, solutions for the labor crisis in health, value and sustainability of the health system. Bruno Campos, assistant director of Information Systems and Technologies of Luz Saúde, and current co-chair of the HIMSS Iberian Community, was one of the speakers in this Lisbon meeting. The first delegation of congress participants visiting Hospital da Luz Lisboa integrated 30 elements from different health organizations and technological companies in Belgium – in a visit accompanied by Kris Maes , the director of the Urology Service and coordinator of the Uro-Oncology Centre and the Robotic and Minimally Invasive Surgery Centre. “It was a privilege to know your hospital; I was very impressed”, stated Maarten Walravens, assistant to the clinical direction of St-Maarten Hospital, who led the delegation. The second delegation integrated 18 HIMSS participants from different countries (namely, USA, Greece, Sweden, Azerbaijan, Netherlands, Spain and Scotland), among which Criss Ross (the CIO of Mayo Clinic), Fernando Seoane (Karolinska Institute, Sweden) and Loannis Kotsiopoulos (secretary-general of Greece Ministry of Health). During the visits of these delegations: Ivo Antão, the Luz Saúde CITO (Chief Information Technology Officer), made a brief presentation of the Group and its units, highlighting the sustained growth in these last years, where the practice of a medicine of excellence and technological innovation are key factors, always aiming to achieve the best results in health from the perspective of the patient; Daniel Ferreira , the clinical director of Hospital da Luz Digital, reminded the journey leading to the present digital moment of Luz Saúde and Hospital da Luz network, with MY LUZ playing a central role in the whole path of the clients, in parallel with the integration of data in the electronic clinical process. He also approached the evolution of video consultations, started in 2016 and presently including over 60 medical specialties, and encompassing programmed follow-up video consultations, first-time and urgent (after screening through LUZ 24 service) video consultations; Francisca Leite, the director of Hospital da Luz Learning Health, presented the Center of Simulation, Education and Innovation – the largest center of the kind in Portugal and one of the largest in Europe, with over 100 simulators and manikins for the training of present and future health professionals. Both delegations also took a guided tour through some of the main clinical areas of HL Lisboa (surgery, intensive medicine, external consultations and inpatient service). “It is quite impressive the way you have built an ecosystem integrated with the electronic clinical process, focused on innovation and the involvement of the patient”, stated Wim V., digital health manager from Belgium.
