NEBio (Núcleo de Estudos de Bioética), the Bioethics Studies Centre of the Portuguese Society of Internal Medicine, will promote, between April 23 and May 7, a cycle of five debates in the scope of COVID-19 pandemics, which will be broadcasted online. “ Ethical questions in times of pandemic ” is the motto for these debates, that will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and will count with the participation of Hospital da Luz specialists, among others. The first two debates will happen next April 23 and 28, and will have as guests, respectively, António Sarmento (Infectology professor and intensivist at Hospital de S. João, in Oporto) and Maria do Céu Patrão Neves (Ethics professor and European Commission specialist). The following topics will be approached: The pandemics and the ethical challenges; What we can learn from the past; Vulnerability and decision-makers’ responsibility; Vulnerability and professionals’ responsibility; An ethical vision of COVID-19 pandemics. These two first debates will be moderated by António H. Carneiro , coordinator of NEBio, specialist in Internal Medicine and Intensive Medicine, and director of the department of Medicine, Emergency and ICU at Hospital da Luz Arrábida. For the following debates, will be invited Daniel Ferreira , cardiologist and clinical director at Hospital da Luz Centro Clínico Digital, and Rui Miguel Carneiro , internist and intensivist, and coordinator of the Team of Support, Follow-up and Palliation, at Hospital da Luz Arrábida.
