João Gouveia , from Hospital da Luz Lisboa, is the first internist of Grupo Luz Saúde to complete his training in the specialty of Anaesthesiology . He concluded his internship in June, therefore being the first anaesthesiologist trained in a health private institution in Portugal. After completing his education in the College of Medicine from Universidade de Coimbra and the internship at Centro Hospitalar de Lisboa Central, in 2014, João Gouveia, born in Santo Tirso, chose then the Hospital da Luz Lisboa for his specialty training, “for it offered a new, interesting and well-organized internship”, he explains. Also Marta dos Santos is already part of the history of Grupo Luz Saúde, for being the first woman general-surgeon trained in the group. She completed her specialty training at Hospital Beatriz Ângelo (hospital unit of the National Health Service run in public-private partnership by Luz Saúde) and reports to have chosen a clinical case of breast cancer she followed up at HBA in the discussion of her specialty exam. João and Marta are examples of Luz Saúde investment in the training of future generations of health professionals, already counting with both of them, now as specialized physicians working in hospital units of the group. Bur this year, besides them, five other internists became the first in the group to complete training in their specialties: Ana Marta Coelho , in Orthopaedics, from Hospital Beatriz Ângelo (HBA); Bruna Abreu , in Gynaecology-Obstetrics, from HBA; Maria Alvarenga Santos , in Pulmonology, from HBA; Ricardo Veiga , in Pathological Anatomy, from Hospital da Luz Lisboa; Rita Arantes Cruz , in Radiology, from HBA. This while Hospital da Luz Arrábida, that has since 2014 acknowledged educational capacity in Internal Medicine, saw its first internist complete the specialty: Luís Martins Magalhães . Professional training is a commitment for Luz Saúde All these physicians obtained the best grades in their respective series of “final exams” of the specialty, results that confirm, beyond the quality of the candidates, the investment in their clinical training made by Luz Saúde. In fact, the training of young doctors and other health professionals has been a major commitment of the group , presently celebrating 20 years of existence. In Internal Medicine, Hospital da Luz Lisboa has now trained one more physician (a total of six, since 2018, in this specialty) and, in previous years, a specialist in Medical Oncology and another one in Nuclear Medicine. Presently, this hospital has 20 physicians in internship, spread over Pathological Anatomy, Anesthesiology, Internal Medicine, Intensive Medicine, Nuclear Medicine, Neurology and Oncology. Hospital da Luz Lisboa and HBA, the two largest units of Luz Saúde, have been in latest years the first choice of candidates to internship with the best grades on national level, which reflects the dynamic and quality of the training activity developed. HBA has 21 services with training capacity and this year, in total, 11 specialists concluded their training here (in Paediatrics, Gastroenterology, Internal Medicine and Oncology, besides the specialties mentioned above).
