Hospital da Luz Learning Health participated for the first time in SIMUniversity Portugal, which took place on March 18, having selected and prepared a team of the Lisbon Faculty of Medicine. Destined to students of the fourth and sixth years of Medicine, SIMUniversity Portugal is a competition promoted by the Portuguese Society of Simulation Applied to Health Sciences (SPSim), to stimulate the training of technical and non-technical skills , as well as the application of clinical knowledge in simulated sceneries. The SIMUniversity Portugal 2022 edition took place in the Nova Medical School Simulation Centre and counted with the participation of four teams of students, representing four national Medicine faculties. Throughout a day of simulation of emergency situations in realistic sceneries, the teams were able to train and test their theoretical knowledge and practical skills, proving that this modality of training is the key for the development of fundamental capacities to work in a team. Hospital da Luz Learning Health – Luz Saúde company dedicated to research, training and innovation activities, equipped with the actual largest Simulation Centre in the country – has collaborated in the selection of the team representing the Medicine Faculty of Lisbon University (which was qualified in an internal competition during the AIMS Meeting 2022 congress) and prepared the enthusiastic Inês Mendo, Ana Filipa Salvado, Bruno Boaventura and Neide Lopes for SIMUniversity Portugal. Although all-new in clinical simulation, and with less than four days to prepare the national competition, this team obtained a remarkable second place, the jury of the contest having highlighted the solid knowledge and the quality of the team work, before clinical situations of emergency. Hospital da Luz Learning Health congratulates all teams and wishes the best successes to the team elected to represent Portugal in the SIMUniversity European semi-final, consisting of students of the Coimbra University Faculty of Medicine. The SIMUniversity is the clinical simulation European competition annually promoted by SESAM (Society for Simulation in Europe), as a way to divulge this powerful education tool, stimulating medical schools to introduce simulation in their curricula and the students to develop their clinical and human skills. One of the missions of Hospital da Luz Learning Health is also to promote clinical simulation among Medicine students, which is why we assume the commitment of offering training internships with simulation to the winning teams of the AIMS Meeting. We also intend to open to all Medicine students in clinical years a new project of Clinical Simulation Summer School, where the students will be able to interact with the diversity of high-tech simulators that are available in our Simulation Centre and which can recreate realistic environments, under the guidance of trainers with clinical and pedagogical experience.
