A team of Hospital da Luz Lisboa ophthalmologists was responsible for one of the courses in highlight at the 39 th congress of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ESCRS), one of the most important and renowned international gatherings of specialists in the area, which took place in Amsterdam, between 8 and 11 October. Coordinated by Filomena Ribeiro , the director of Hospital da Luz Lisboa Ophthalmology, the course “Demystifying refractive cataract surgery” (on cataract surgery for glasses independence) integrated communications by Bernardo Feijóo , Leyre Zabala , Paulo Guerra , Paulo Kaku , Paul Martins Campos and Tiago Ferreira . The ESCRS is the European association most representative in the area, gathering associates form 130 countries. It was founded in 1991 to promote activities of training, research and innovation in ophthalmology, in particular in the area of refractive surgery, fundamental in the treatment of ophthalmic diseases such as hyperopia, myopia, astigmatism and presbyopia. This 39 th congress, in online and in-person format, gathered over 7,000 specialists, that have had the opportunity to share experiences and knowledge on the best practices at present in refractive and cataract surgery.
