Renowned national and international specialists, including from the World Health Organization (WHO), are to participate in the International Congress of Infection Control and Antimicrobial Resistance , that Luz Saúde is organizing in Lisbon, next September 23. The purpose is to discuss and share new concepts and new practices in the area of infection control and antimicrobial resistance. After almost two years of COVID-19 pandemics, the health institutions have different rules and procedures to live (and cope) with this new reality. More than ever, it is essential to update knowledge, share experiences and point out innovative solutions, preparing the future. It is with great satisfaction that Luz Saúde Group is organizing, for the 13 th time, a congress in the area of infection control and antimicrobial resistance. “This initiative reflects the importance of the area in question, particularly in a moment where everyone wants to resume normality, as far as possible”, highlights Carlos Palos , the coordinator of the Central Coordination Board of the Luz Saúde Program of Prevention, Infection Control and Antimicrobial Resistance, which organizes this congress. The motto of the event is precisely “Towards a new normal”. And since we aspire to a return to the possible normality, the congress will be exclusively on-site, in the main auditorium of Hospital da Luz Lisboa, “certain that it will be a moment of desired reunion for all”. WHO specialists (and much more) live Destined to physicians, nurses, health technicians, pharmacists, managers in the area of infection control, and all professionals in general interested in the area, the congress will be organized in four round tables, with renowned national and international moderators and speakers, including from WHO, and representatives of professional associations. From WHO, Benedetta Allegranzi (Service Delivery and Safety Department) will present the first global report of that institution on prevention and infection control; and Benedikt Huttner (Department of Essential Medicines and Health Products) will approach the respective antibiotics classification chart (AWaRe). António Correia de Campos , former Health Minister, will make an assessment of the work done by the Global Leaders Group on Antimicrobial Resistance Initiative, a platform comprising world leaders and specialists from all sectors with the purpose of accelerating political action in the field of antimicrobial resistance. Other topics will also be debated, such as sustainability, resort to Artificial Intelligence, the role of architecture in the “new normality”, collateral damages of the pandemic at different levels, new procedures and solutions in environmental sanitization, endoscopic reprocessing, and microbiology. The congress will be preceded, on September 22, by the workshop Microbiological Studies in Endoscopy – A contribute for reprocessing , of particular interest for all professionals involved in endoscopic reprocessing.
