The ceremony was held on November 26th at the João Lobo Antunes Auditorium, Faculty of Medicine, University of Lisbon. Former Minister of Health, Maria de Belém Roseira, president of the jury, presented the award. ActGreen, an innovative project in energy sustainability for large hospitals, which brought together the multinational Siemens and Luz Sa ú de , was the big winner of the Environmental Sustainability award. The ‘Innovation in Health: All for Sustainability’ award, promoted by Sanofi, the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon (FMUL) and NTT DATA Portugal, annually distinguishes innovative projects in the areas of Social Sustainability, Economic Sustainability, Environmental Sustainability and Sustainability in Digital Transformation. According to the official website, this initiative aims to "boost sustainability in healthcare, foster innovation in sustainable health, promote the introduction of innovative technologies and processes in clinical research and practice, strengthen ties with academia, and disseminate best practices." It is intended for "entities and individuals who develop projects or initiatives that contribute to sustainability in healthcare, in its various dimensions – social, economic, environmental, and digital transformation." ActGreen, the winning project from Hospital da Luz with Siemens, is already yielding results and promises significant savings in hospital electricity consumption, thus proving to be an important tool for the energy sustainability of large hospitals. According to Gonçalo Leal, Director of Diagnostic Imaging at Luz Saúde and responsible for the development of this project at Hospital da Luz units, “the importance of ActGreen lies in its ability to generate environmental, economic and operational value simultaneously . It allows for significant energy savings, reduces emissions associated with electricity consumption per examination, and proves that it is possible to make an energy transition in healthcare without compromising the quality of care .
