Microbiota is the designation given in medicine to the millions of microbes living in the human body. The majority of them are not pathogenic, but they are known to influence heath in different ways – a fascinating topic that is the object of relatively recent studies all over the world. The importance of these microbes for health and in medicine will be the theme of the conference taking place next July 12, at Hospital da Luz Lisboa, with the intervention of some of the world leading researchers in the area. The event will be organized in partnership by the Gulbenkian Institute of Science, SymbNet and the Clinical Academic Center Católica Luz. Open to the general public, the conference “Microbiota in Health” will have as speakers: Martin Blaser , Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ, USA, who will approach the theme: “Health consequences of perturbing the early-life microbiome” Isabel Gordo , Gulbenkian Institute of Science, Portugal, who will approach the topic: "Drivers of antibiotic resistance and the effect of the microbiome” Rob Knight , University of California San Diego, CA, USA, who will talk about: “The microbiome in cancer”. After these interventions, there will be a space for questions and discussion.
