“Hospital da Luz is already today a great university hospital.” It is with these words that António Medina de Almeida, haematologist at Hospital da Luz Lisboa and the director of the Medicine Course of Universidade Católica in partnership with Grupo Luz Saúde, talks about the role that Hospital da Luz will play in the teaching of students, in this first private course of medicine in Portugal. The new medicine course of Universidade Católica , approved in 2020 and due to start receiving the first students in the academic year of 2021/2022, will operate between the Faculty Campus and the hospitals and clinics of Hospital da Luz Network , which is already prepared in its multiple areas and different specialities to receive the students of this new course. The engineer Francisca Leite, that manages Hospital da Luz Learning Health – which will also participate in the teaching of these students – says, on the other hand, that “we have all the conditions” to give them access to simulation training in real clinical environments, to multiple clinical research projects, and to the support of many start-ups that already collaborate with HL LH in the search of the best innovation in health and medicine. All these activities in research and simulation training, besides the integration in the daily clinical practice since the very first years, advances the director of the new Faculty, will form an integral part of the curriculum of this new course .
