The IX Congress of the Sociedade Portuguesa de Patologia da Coluna Vertebral (SPPCV) (Portuguese Society of Spinal Cord Pathology) will take place next 29 to 31 October , for the first time in online format, having for central topic “The challenges in the treatment of spinal pathology for the individual and the community” . “We aim to promote the sharing of knowledge between health professionals in a multidisciplinary way, and to foster interest in the treatment of spinal cord diseases. To that end, we count with speakers who will coordinate lectures, debates and workshops with different objectives and subthemes”, explains Carla Reizinho, Hospital da Luz neurosurgeon and president of the organizing committee of the congress . This committee also integrates neurosurgeons Ana Luís and Bruno Santiago , also from Hospital da Luz. The purpose of this SPPCV congress is to discuss the most recent and challenging topics posed by spinal diseases. In that sense, it will have the participation of renowned national and international specialists, not only in Orthopaedics and Neurosurgery, but also in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Anaesthesiology, Neuroradiology, Neurology, Rheumatology, Infectology, Geriatrics, and Public Health. Among the foreign speakers, Thomas Blattert and Marco Teli, in representation of Eurospine, will intervene in the symposium “Challenges in the treatment of spinal pathology in the elderly”, while Michael Fehlings, Canadian specialist in complex spine surgery, will introduce the lecture “Degenerative cervical Myelopathy: what is new, what is hot?”. The program further includes two workshops: the first destined to nurses (on spinal cord surgery and imaging), and the second one destined to physicians of General and Family Medicine (on spine degenerative pathology).
