The 1 st Lisbon Spine Simulation Course , held on May 28 and 29 at the Simulation Centre of Hospital da Luz Learning Health, registered high participation and very positive critics from all participants (specialists and surgery internists and nurses). Organized by the Spine Centre of Hospital da Luz Lisboa, this is an innovative practical course in Portugal on spine surgery simulation, which will have a second edition in 2022. The course counts with the participation of several national and international specialists and is destined to internists or specialists in neurosurgery or orthopaedics and surgical nurses. In this first edition, the enthusiasm and satisfaction of all participants was evident, given the realism of the simulators and the surgical environment they worked in: an integral reproduction of the operating room , with all the necessary technology and instrumentation. “It was possible to train, in a far more didactical and hands-on manner, advanced surgical techniques of the most common spine procedures, including complications that sometimes occur”, explains Bruno Santiago , Hospital da Luz Lisboa neurosurgeon and coordinator of the course. “This is an unprecedented event, since for the first time in Portugal, were available the latest simulators in spine surgery, extremely realistic, mimicking the anatomy, critical structures at risk and intraoperative haemorrhage, overcoming the limitations of courses with anatomical pieces”, the specialist adds. Hospital da Luz Learning Health and the Spine Centre of Hospital da Luz Lisboa are grateful to all those who made this course possible. Stay tuned for the second edition, in 2022!
