Hospital da Luz Lisboa will host, next October 28 and 29, the annual meeting of the Society for Cardiac Robotic Navigation, with the presence of some of the most experienced cardiologists in the world in the treatment of cardiac arrhythmia. The Hospital da Luz Lisboa Centre of Cardiac Rhythm is presently the second center in the world in terms of number of patients treated by robotic ablation. “Charting new courses: robotic EP applications and beyond” is the theme of this SCRN congress, which organizing committee integrates Pedro Adragão , Sabine Ernst (Royal Brompton Hospital, Chelsea, United Kingdom), Pekka Raatikainen (Helsinki Hospital), Tamas Szili-Török (Groninga University Medical Centre, Netherlands), and Lukasz Szumowski (National Institute of Cardiology, Warsaw, Poland). This annual meeting of SCRN is destined not only to the specialty physicians and medicine students, but also to engineers and researchers interested in the topic. The perspectives open by technological advances and the most current issues in the area will be discussed, including how to make the existing robotic more accessible to more vast populations. The program has a marked practical component, with a discussion of clinical cases and also the sharing of experiences by the different centres participating in the gathering. The SCRN was founded in 2015 by European cardiologists, and this is the second time it will hold its annual congress at Hospital da Luz. “The choice of our Hospital acknowledges the importance we have as a centre of excellence in the robotic treatment of arrhythmia ”, highlights Pedro Aragão, who is responsible for the introduction in Portugal of several diagnostic and therapeutical techniques in cardiac arrhythmia, including magnetic navigation for robotic ablation of arrhythmia. The Hospital da Luz Lisboa Centre of Cardiac Rhythm: Is in operation since 2007 and has a vast experience in the use of stereotaxis to treat complex cardiac arrhythmia – namely the most common case of atrial fibrillation –, having performed over three thousand interventions with this technology. Besides arrhythmia ablation by catheter, it performs all the usual procedures of interventional arrhythmology, including the implantation of cardioverter-defibrillators, re-synchronizers, pacemakers (including cardiac capsule) and event detectors.
