Course on Palliative Care: Hospital da Luz Shares Experience
The Unit of Continuing and Palliative Care (UCCP) from Hospital da Luz Lisboa will organize on 13, 14 and 15 March another edition of its Basic Course on Palliative Care. On an annual basis, this course has for purpose to sensitize and train all health professionals interested in the area. Hospital da Luz has developed over more than 10 years a work of reference in the scope of continuing and palliative care. “Continual training and sharing of results, together with the assistencial work, are fundamental to our priorities”, stresses Isabel Galriça Neto, the coordinator of UCCP.
The Basic Course on Palliative Care is, thus, the first course in a program of continual training taking place until de end of 2019 and integrating pedagogical activities of basic and intermediate level, approaching the specificities of work in continuing and palliative care. In this course, the participants will learn more about the principles and philosophy of continuing and palliative care, as well as the basic organizational aspects and general principles of pain control and other symptoms. Topics such as communication with the patient and family, care and ethical issues in the last days of life, spiritual necessities, support in grief, hospital team work and burnout prevention, will also be approached with professionals experienced in the area.
