Facial trauma treatment international course
Hospital da Luz hosts, on February 8 and 9, the AOCMF Course — Management of Facial Trauma, organized by the craniomaxillofacial clinical division of the prestigious AO Foundation. This educational event is intended for all surgeons and interns of the specialty who work in this area and will take place in the multipurpose room of the Casas da Cidade (building contiguous with the hospital). The course is directed by Alberto Rocha Pereira, plastic surgeon and coordinator of the Facial Reconstructive Surgery Unit of the Hospital da Luz Lisboa, coordinator of the Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Unit of the Hospital da Luz Torres de Lisboa, and member of the above-mentioned foundation's Cranio-Facial Expert Group.
In interaction with Portuguese and foreign speakers, participants will have the opportunity to review the basic principles necessary for the treatment of craniomaxillofacial fractures and subsequent complications. The program includes lectures, cases analysis and practical exercises.
The AO Foundation was set up in 1958 by a group of surgeons from several nationalities specializing in the treatment of trauma and musculoskeletal illnesses, with the purpose of promoting excellence in patient care in this area. It is now the largest surgeons association in the world, with around 20,000 members, and is present in more than 100 countries, promoting a wide range of training courses, that are a reference in the area. The craniomaxillofacial clinical division was created in 1974 and is a multidisciplinary community of clinicians - with specialists from maxillofacial surgery to reconstructive and plastic surgery, otolaryngology, head and neck surgery, ophthalmology and neurosurgery
