Director of Nursing at the Hospital da Luz receives research award

The Director of Nursing at the Hospital da Luz, Maria José Dias, received the 2014 Mariana Diniz de Souza award for nursing research, given by the Order of Nurses, for her work 'Falls in Hospitals: Predictive Factors'.

The Mariana Diniz de Sousa award aims to enhance nursing research in the context of clinical practice, which is considered critical to the development of professionals and to the improvement of care provision.

Maria José Dias has been Director of Nursing at the Hospital da Luz since its opening. She graduated in 2014 from the Catholic University of Portugal (UCP) with a dissertation also in the area of falls in hospitals.

Falls are the most common incident reported in hospitals and are an indicator of patient safety which is greatly influenced by nursing care. This influenced the Hospital da Luz Director of Nursing in choosing the area to which she has dedicated her research work.
