Hospital da Luz provides clinical care at the Volvo Ocean Race
Hospital da Luz is once again providing official clinical care during the Lisbon leg of the Volvo Ocean Race, the largest ocean race in the world, with sea trials held in the River Tagus estuary between 25 May and 7 June.
At the Pedrouços Docks, where competition teams are based, the Hospital da Luz has set up a medical center to tend to the public who visit the site.
The Hospital da Luz is also providing medical assistance to teams in the competition, both in emergency situations at the location and for hospital admissions when more specialized care is required.
Between 4 and 7 June during the sailing events taking place in the Tagus estuary, a Hospital da Luz doctor will follow the race on board a boat to assist all crew members that may need immediate treatment.
In addition to personnel, the medical center is equipped with the medical devices needed to provide assistance to those in need, such as an automated external defibrillator, electrocardiograph, portable ventilator and monitor/defibrillator.
Support is also provided through medicalized ambulances for hospital transport at the race location and through emergency INEM services (ambulances and medical vehicle), which will be activated to support serious situations.
