Hospital da Luz Offers 1st Simulation Instructor Course

Hospital da Luz Learning Health organized, last 17 and 18 January, in partnership with the Portuguese Society of Simulation Applied to Health Sciences, the 1st Simulation Instructor Course. Twenty health professionals from Hospital da Luz Lisboa and Hospital Beatriz Ângelo received training in methodology of simulation, along two days of intensive teaching and sharing of experiences in the area. Sessions were held resorting to SimMan 3G ASL 5000 simulator, recently acquired by the Simulation Centre from Hospital da Luz Learning Health, gathering a series of unique features for the first time available in Portugal.

This is a simulator that allows the advanced training of individuals and multidisciplinary teams in complex scenarios, in the fields of anaesthesiology, intensive care, emergency medicine, pulmonology and respiratory care. Namely, it detects automatically drugs, has pupillary reflex, breaths spontaneously and can be connected to a ventilator (through lung ASL 5000TM, which makes it possible to recreate different respiratory profiles and several disease scenarios).

With this first instructor training course, Hospital da Luz Learning Health – Grupo Luz Saúde company dedicated to training, research and innovation – takes a decisive step in its project. Clinical simulation is an interactive and innovating training methodology viewing to improve knowledge, clinical performance and the levels of confidence of students and professionals in the area of heath. Training based on simulation provides learning in a safe, realistic and predictable environment, with no risk for patients, thus contributing to humanization and excellence in healthcare providing.
