Hospital da Luz physician performs live surgery at International Congress

Filipa Osório, a gynecologist at Hospital da Luz was invited to perform live surgery during the 24th Congress of the European Society for Gynecological Endoscopy, held between 7th and 10th October in Budapest. The broadcast was made from the operating room of the Szent Imre Teaching Hospital in the city.

The operation performed by Filipa Osório was a laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy with 3D vision technology on a 71-year-old patient. The possibility of using three-dimensional vision for laparoscopy is one of the significant advances in this area. It greatly improves the perception of space and depth, and has a major impact on the accuracy of surgical gestures. Therefore, it may be a valuable resource in more complex interventions performed by laparoscopy.

Filipa Osório has specialized in Gynecology-Obstetrics since 2009, devoting herself in particular to minimally invasive gynecological surgery (laparoscopy and hysteroscopy) in areas such as endometriosis, fibroids, pelvic floor reconstruction, oncology, endometrial pathology and infertility surgery. She has performed several surgeries broadcast live from the Hospital da Luz, in particular cases of deep endometriosis surgery for the First Annual Middle East Society for Gynecologic Endoscopy (MESGE) Congress/Turkish Society of Gynecologic Endoscopy (TSGE) held in Antalya in 2013, for the 42nd Global Congress on Minimally Invasive Gynecology in Washington in 2013 and for the 2nd Annual Middle East Society for Gynecologic Endoscopy (MESGE)/International Society for Gynecological Endoscopy performed in Dubai in 2014.
