Physicians from Hospital da Luz and HBA Collaborate in Study on Neuroendocrine Tumours
Physicians of the Oncology centres and services of Nuclear Medicine from Hospital da Luz Lisboa and Hospital Beatriz Ângelo (HBA) have been actively collaborating in the works of the Group of Neuroendocrine Tumours Studies, of the Portuguese Society of Endocrinology Diabetes and Metabolism (SPEDM). In this scope, they have presented several cases diagnosed and treated in both hospitals, and where the multidisciplinarity of the respective medical teams, on diagnosis and therapeutics, contributed positively for the clinical improvement of the patients in question.
One of the tasks of this Group of Neuroendocrine Tumours Studies from SPEDM, integrating specialists from other units in the country, is the creation of a national database on these rare tumours. The group will hold on May 10, at Instituto de Patologia e Imunologia Molecular from Universidade do Porto (IPATIMUP), its 7th Network of Neuroendocrine Tumours.
During this meeting, Vanessa Sousa (specialist in Nuclear Medicine from HBA) and Luísa Leal da Costa (internist from HBA) will present two cases of patients with neuroendocrine tumours, that were followed-up at Hospital da Luz and HBA. It is worth mentioning that Hospital da Luz Lisboa has now available positron emission tomography with different drugs, allowing the diagnosis, prognosis and evaluation of the therapeutics applied.
These cases will be discussed and assessed by panels of specialists, among them Maria do Rosário Vieira, coordinator of the Nuclear Medicine Service from Hospital da Luz Lisboa, and Rita Roque, general-surgeon at HBA and Hospital da Luz Oeiras.
