British Hospital Orthopaedist in Europe’s Champion Futsal Team

Rodrigo Moreira, orthopaedist from British Hospital Torres de Lisboa, a Grupo Luz Saúde unit, is the physician of the Futsal Portuguese National Team, which conquered, last February 10, for the first time, the title of European Champion, in Ljubljana (Slovenia).

This was the third Futsal European championship the specialist participated in. “The results exceeded our expectations”, says Rodrigo Moreira, himself a former practitioner and trainer in this modality.

He works for the Portuguese Federation of Football since 2011, having started by assuring clinical assistance to football national younger teams (under-15 to under-21). In 2013, he dedicated himself to Futsal A team (that he also accompanied in the World Championship of 2016, where Portugal ended in 4th place).

The medical assistance provided by Rodrigo Moreira focuses on pre- and after-game periods, but in this championship in Slovenia “the work was mostly done in the final”, he declares, in reference to the injuries of Bruno Coelho and Ricardinho.

And if the best Futsal player in the world was really forced to wait in the bench for the end of the game, Bruno Coelho, assisted by the doctor at 12 minutes, managed to get back in the field and scored the two decisive goals (the second goal, that levelled the game at 2-2 and determined the extra-time, and the third goal, that decided the victory against Spain).

The next challenge is the World Championship in 2020.

Rodrigo Moreira is an orthopaedist at the British Hospital Torres de Lisboa, since 2015, being a specialist in knee and ankle.
