Pneumologist from Hospital da Luz Coordinates Book on Sleep

Richard Staats, pneumologist at Hospital da Luz, is the coordinator of the work “100 Perguntas Chave nos Distúrbios Respiratórios do Sono” (100 Key-Questions on Sleep Respiratory Disorders), just published and designed for specialists in pneumology, neurology, otorhinolaryngology, general and family medicine, and dental medicine, as well as for interns in these specialties.

Throughout the ten chapters of this work, several authors analyse essential areas of sleep medicine trying to contribute for the knowledge of aspects not yet fully clarified or constantly changing with the progress of research in this area. As Richard Staats points out in the foreword of the book, «the recommendations concerning therapeutics are constantly changing», «we still do not fully understand the impact of sleep respiratory disorders», «obstructive sleep apnea, in particular, remains an interesting pathology», and «an effective therapeutics for respiratory disorders is still hard to apply».

Besides Richard Staats, who coordinates and is author of one chapter, other doctors participate in the book: Carla Bentes and João Valença from Hospital da Luz, and Margarida Aguiar from Hospital Beatriz Ângelo.
