The physician Rosado Pinto, coordinator of Immunoallergology at Hospital da Luz (HL), presided, in representation of Direção Geral de Saúde and Hospital da Luz, to the 10th World Meeting of GARD (Global Alliance Against Chronic Respiratory Diseases), which took place in July, in Lisbon, under the patronage of the World Health Organization (WHO).

In this international meeting, there were delegates from 31 countries all over the world, such as Syria, Bangladesh, Angola and Mozambique, and from 52 international organizations concerned with chronic respiratory diseases.

During the event, this physician from Hospital da Luz was nominated for GARD executive committee, for a four-year period.

GARD is a volunteer alliance of more than 90 organizations, institutions, and national and international agencies, created under the patronage of WHO in Geneva, Switzerland, all working for the same goal: to improve respiratory health at a global level. Over billions of people all over the world suffer from chronic respiratory disease, being one of the four pathologies of greater incidence globally, along with oncologic and cardiovascular diseases, as well as diabetes.

In this 10th World Meeting, GARD members discussed models to increase the recognition of the importance of chronic respiratory diseases, at local, regional and national level, as well as ways to integrate prevention and control of these diseases in the context of primary health care.
