Health Startup Wins Protechting 3.0
CRIAM, a startup in the area of health that presented a portable medical device for blood testing, capable of identifying blood type and subtype in three minutes and subsequently detect diseases, was the winner of the 3rd edition of Protechting – the program of support and acceleration of innovating projects in the areas of health (Healthtech), insurance (Insurtech) and finance (Fintech), promoted by Fosun and Fidelidade in partnership with Beta-i, an incubator of new business ideas (startups). CRIAM project is grounded on a new methodology of blood phenotyping, which is portable, fast, simple and cost-effective, via a device based on a cartridge with the specific reagents for blood type testing. It was considered the best business model among the six finalists of Protechting, having received a monetary prize of 10 thousand Euros, granted in a ceremony that took place last November 8, during the last day of the Web Summit, in Lisbon.
For CRIAM responsibles, the participation in Protechting 3.0 “exceeded all expectations”: “We met wonderful people and shared our experience. To participate in the roadshow in China will be amazing, we have already been there and we know we can do this. To be present together with Fosun, Fidelidade, Luz Saúde and Beta-i is incredible, since they have the right connections for us to shine”, stated CRIAM CEO, Vítor Crespo (in the photo above), at the time of the prize ceremony.
Hospital da Luz Learning Health, the Grupo Luz Saúde company dedicated to the advanced training of professionals, translational research and innovation in the areas of healthcare management and provision, was the mentor of CRIAM and provided the startup with the necessary support in the elaboration of a clinical study report, in collaboration with immunohemotherapists Laura Castro and Graça Rodrigues, from Hospital Beatriz Ângelo Service of Immunohemotherapy, which is part of that study to evaluate the reliability of the solution developed by CRIAM.
Winners in roadshow in China
Besides CRIAM, that was distinguished as the best business model, Protechting counted with two more winners, projects Wall-i and CopSonic. Wall-i is an advanced operative system of digital signage, cloud-based and capable of providing segmented and sufficiently versatile information to be adaptable for content presentation within the different requirements of context. CopSonic is a new protocol of contactless communication that allows digital safety, intelligent detection and connectivity between electronic devices. It can be integrated by B2B partners in the existing vertical and environmental activities. Safe transfer is ensured via microphone.
The three winning projects also received the opportunity to participate in a roadshow in China, taking place on December, where they will have access to some of the world top investors and also the opportunity to integrate and develop their businesses with Fosun, Fidelidade, Luz Saúde or the German bank Hauck & Aufhäuser. Since its first edition, in 2016, the Protechting program has received over 250 applicants of startups from 42 countries. Protechting 3.0 received 157 candidates, 100 of which were approved, in a total of 32 countries. In the bootcamp week participated 25 startups, from which 15 finalists were selected to integrate the pilot week, where six were chosen for the final pitch in the Web Summit.
