CT scan with less radiation to diagnose sinusitis
The Hospital da Luz Imaging Center has developed a computerized tomography (CT) protocol for the perinasal sinuses which uses a low dose of radiation to obtain sinusitis diagnostic images.
The radiation dose of this new CT protocol is two times less than that of a conventional radiography and 11 times less than a CT scan using a common protocol. Moreover, the images obtained provide more information than conventional radiographs.
A CT scan of the perinasal sinuses with low dose radiation protocol allows more information to be gathered in comparison to conventional radiographs as it is possible to carry out multiplanar images.
This low dose radiation CT protocol is mainly used for children suffering from sinusitis.
In addition to the Hospital da Luz Imaging Center, computerized tomography of the perinasal sinuses with low dose radiation protocol can also be carried out at the Hospital da Luz - Oeiras and Amadora Clinics.
