Inpatient Treatment with Iodine-131

The Hospital da Luz now offers inpatient treatment with Iodine-131 for differentiated thyroid cancer. Iodine-131 is a radio nucleotide indicated for the treatment of thyroid diseases, in low doses for hyperthyroidism, and in higher doses for differentiated thyroid cancer. When administered in higher doses, patients are required to stay in the hospital for approximately three days, in isolation conditions. Since June 2011, the hospital has dedicated two rooms for inpatient treatment, both being equipped and especially prepared to meet the demands of safety and radiologic protection required during treatments with Iodine-131.
