Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Hospital da Luz is the most advanced unit in all of Portugal.
With a maximum of 8 centrally monitored beds, all in individual rooms, the Intensive Care Unit of the Hospital da Luz provides highly specialized individual care with unsurpassed safety conditions and privacy for patients. In support of the patient's comfort and well-being, the ICU also permits families to be present for longer periods of time.
In addition to the physical atributes, such as natural lighting, the Intensive Care Unit of the Hospital da Luz possesses advanced technological support. All beds are equipped with monitors for continuous surveillance and registration of the vital signs, ventilators and the latest generation perfusion/infusion systems. The monitoring, and infusion/perfusion systems may also accompany patients during their journeys between the Intensive Care Unit and other hospital units (for example, the Operating Block). This contributes to their comfort and safety during transport. In the Intensive Care Unit of the Hospital da Luz there is also a room which allows patients to be kept in isolation and two of the beds are equipped for carrying out hemodialysis.
The Intensive Care Unit has its own permanent medical, nursing and auxiliary team, with specific training, providing care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
