Special Care Unit
For patients that do not require the highest level of care provided in the Intensive Care Unit, namely life support systems, but who still need closer and more frequent monitoring than patients in the medical or surgical inpatient units, the Hospital da Luz established a Special Care Unit.
The Special Care Unit has its own permanent nursing and auxiliary service and operates under the responsibility of the Internal Medicine team. Its operating philosophy is multidisciplinary, being well integrated with all the specialist areas and departments in the Hospital, all of whom coordinate their services by focusing on the specific needs of each patient.
The Special Care Unit has seven beds, distributed between two physical spaces which include monitoring systems for vital signs and portable ventilation. It offers patients medical care adapted to their situation with the best safety and privacy conditions while allowing them to be accompanied by their family for longer periods during the day.
