Nursing at Hospital da Luz recognized by Order

Two research projects developed by nurses at the Hospital da Luz were given awards by the Southern Regional Section of the Portuguese Nursing Association at their meeting on Quality Standards of Nursing Care, held on 18 March in Lisbon.

'Endoscopic techniques – A Safety Checklist', carried out by nurses Hugo Castro, Cátia Sena, Maria José Pinto, Patricia Alvarez and Paula Cannas, and 'Support for grieving in relatives of palliative care patients', by nurses Maria Aparício, Joana Bragança, Joel Ferreira and Cristiana Rodrigues, were the focus at this meeting, and were awarded second and third place in the category of hospital care projects.

In total, more than four dozen projects for continuous improvement in nursing care were submitted to the quality standards contest. Around 80% dealt with hospital care and the rest were in the area of primary health care. The Hospital da Luz submitted six projects to the contest.

This is the third time that the Nursing Association has run this initiative, which aims to spread continuous improvement programs to all health institutions and all contexts of clinical nursing practice. The aim is to standardize nursing practices and encourage improvments in the quality of care provided.
