HBA Trains Other Hospitals within ERAS Program
Hospital Beatriz Ângelo (HBA), the single one in the country internationally certified as ERAS Program Excellence Centre, will give training to other Portuguese hospitals in this field. ERAS (Enhanced Recovery After Surgery) is an innovative clinical program implemented in some of the best hospitals in Europe and the United States, encompassing the best practice in healthcare providing for patients after surgery.
The first HBA training in ERAS Program Implementation will start next October, with the participation of professionals from Hospital Fernando Fonseca (Amadora-Sintra) and Hospital da Luz Lisboa.
Divided into four modules, the training will take place along eight months and HBA will count with the support of Hospital da Luz Learning Health (a Luz Saúde group company dedicated to research, education and innovation) and Encare (a company associated to ERAS Society).
HBA was the first hospital in Portugal to join ERAS program – between May and December 2016 – implementing it in colon and rectal surgeries. By means of multidisciplinary intervention, patients are exhaustively prepared before surgery and intra and postoperative care is standardized. The purpose is a better and faster recovery of patients, at the same time reducing postoperative complications and risks associated with prolonged hospital internment.
