Hospital da Luz Medical Assistance to Estoril Open Highly Acknowledged

The medical assistance provided by Hospital da Luz during Millennium Estoril Open, the tennis tournament taking place between April 28 and May 6, at Clube de Ténis do Estoril, was highly appraised by the clinical team of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), institution that organizes the world circuit of professional tennis.

Similarly to previous editions (2015, 2016 and 2017), where it was the official medical service provider of the event, Hospital da Luz installed a medical centre in the precinct, this year coordinated by Fábio Gonçalves, specialist in Sports Medicine.

The medical centre, involving 16 health professionals from Hospital da Luz – among physicians, nurses, physiotherapists and masseurs –, divided its medical activity between two poles: one destined to the general public, counting with a physician and a nurse, during the precinct operating hours, and a second one destined to players, permanently supported by physiotherapists and masseurs and a specialist in Sports Medicine.

Globally, besides the constant work of preparation and muscle recovery for the 30 tennis players in competition, the centre destined to the public assisted about 200 people, during the nine days of the tournament.

Millennium Estoril Open 2018 was won, for the first time, by a Portuguese tennis player, João Sousa, who defeated the North American Frances Tiafoe in two sets (double 6-4).
