Luz Saúde Logistics and Purchasing Model Discussed in Conference

The purchasing and provisioning model of Hospital da Luz units was one of the topics discussed in Pharma Supply Chain, the first conference on pharmaceutical logistics and healthcare in Portugal, which took place last April 20. Organized by magazine Logística Moderna, this conference gathered in Lisbon managers and company directors and institutions from the pharmaceutical and healthcare provision sectors.

The model adopted by Luz Saúde was presented by Rodolfo Marques, coordinator of the Provisioning Service of Hospital da Luz Setúbal. In an intervention entitled “Criação de uma central de logística na cadeia de abastecimento das unidades do Grupo Luz Saúde“ (Creation of a logistics centre in the supply chain of Luz Saúde Group units), Rodolfo Marques explained the establishment of GLSMED, the company centralizing logistics and purchasing in Luz Saúde Group, and its impact after one year, particularly in the supply chain of Hospital da Luz Setúbal.

This was the first conference of the kind in Portugal and, according to the organizers, it arose from “the need to consider the supply chains of the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors in an integrated and comprehensive manner, in particularly challenging times for the economy in general”. SPMS - Serviços Partilhados do Ministério da Saúde (Shared Services of the Ministry of Health), Unidade Local de Saúde do Alto Minho (Local Health Unit of Alto Minho), Rangel Pharma, Health Cluster Portugal, Zetes Portugal, Vipfarma, Farmavenix Portugal and Egor were other institutions also present in the conference.
