About ten thousand people united for a cause – breast cancer prevention – with the clinical assistance and solidarity of Hospital da Luz. It was the running Corrida Mimosa pela Vida, held on May 17, and where Hospital da Luz was present once again as official medical service partner, taking care of the health of all the participants, including its collaborators also running for those in need. This was the 20 th edition of Corrida Mimosa pela Vida having from the outset the goals of raising the awareness of society to breast cancer and raising funds to help fight this disease , thus contributing to purchase breast cancer screening devices. Altogether in these 20 editions, over a million euros were raised in favour of the Portuguese League Against Cancer. As per usual, Hospital da Luz has set up a medical centre near the starting line , assigning 31 health professionals among doctors, nurses, and health technicians. This year, 120 of the athletes enrolled in the running – from Santos to Belém, in Lisbon, along a 5 km track – were Hospital da Luz collaborators. In fact, this event represented the debut of Hospital da Luz Running Club in official competitions, a running club organized and supported by the Group already counting with 40 collaborators. Each kilometre covered by the 120 collaborators was converted in €5 in favour of Candeia Association, which has received a total donation of €3,000. Candeia is a social solidarity private institution that supports children and youth living in foster care or in social vulnerability context. It presently follows around 500 children and youth, through various projects and initiatives. “Our goal is to promote their autonomy, welfare and social inclusion, trusting that we can help them aspire a better future and bring added value to the society”, explained Francisca Cunha and Leonor Soares Cardoso, the representatives of the association that have received the check in the donated amount, appreciating the help and solidarity of Hospital da Luz. Hospital da Luz congratulates all the participants in the running event. Beyond fundamental for a healthier life preventive of disease, sport is an opportunity of inclusion, and Hospital da Luz is always ready to contribute.
