It was a truly special first anniversary . A perfect musical selection, outstanding voices and, as no celebration is complete without cake, after singing “Happy Birthday,” a table full of custard tarts ensured everyone could share in the sweetness and joy of the moment. The Hospital da Luz Choir marked its first year of existence by returning to the indoor garden at Hospital da Luz Lisboa to perform – and enchant . Conductor Sérgio Peixoto kept time and introduced each piece with a short speech, always repeating the same invitation: “Join the Choir. It will become the best moment of your week!” Since its inaugural concert last December, the Choir has grown. It now includes around 30 singers, bringing together administrative staff, nurses, assistants, healthcare technicians, doctors and managers. This time, the concert – featuring songs by the Beatles, Chico Buarque, Rui Veloso and even Disney’s The Lion King , among others – included the participation of percussionist José Blanco, while Ana Amorim, also a Choir member, added a special touch with her cavaquinho.
